LOCAL STUDIES AND GRANTS

Water Task Force

In 2005, the League of Women Voters of the Claremont Area appointed a Task Force to study water services and issues involved in the City buying the water company. We offered residents the results of this study. The report seeks to provide background information to help the public understand this policy issue.

Sustainability Guidebook

The sustainability forum held on April 14, 2007 was jointly sponsored by the Mayor's Ad Hoc Sustainable Development Committee [MAHSDC] of Claremont and the Sustainability Committee of the League of Women Voters of the Claremont Area. It was partially funded by the Millenium Campaign of the New World Foundation (UN) with a grant through the LWVUS Education Fund. This resident's guidebook grew out of that forum.

Thompson Creek Spreading Grounds Feasibility Study

In 2008 the League of Women Voters of the Claremont Area received a grant of $200,000 from the Lower Los Angeles and San Gabriel Rivers and Mountains Conservancy (RMC) for a feasibility study for acquiring, restoring and developing the Thompson Creek Spreading Grounds. The Spreading Grounds immediately joins the Claremont Wilderness Park, meaning it may be the possible for the land to be opened to low impact public use. However, the primary study goal was to explore the possibility of increasing capacity for groundwater storage. Because of state budget constraints, the actual start-up signal for work to begin was not given until February 2010.
